As a board certified music therapist, Tian has worked with a variety of individuals ranging from early childhood through older adults with developmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Tian also has over 10 years experience working with individuals and groups in a variety of settings such as creative art programs, adult day programs, school districts, and clinics.

Tian Chiang is trained MUSIKGARTEN curriculum, is a unique music & movement program for young children of all abilities and their families. Family members and their children will have fun making music in class and even more fun working on motor, sensory, speech & language, cognitive and social skills through the special musical activities. Tian plays piano, guitar, percussion instruments and autoharp. In therapy sessions, Tian usually utilizes voice, autoharp and some percussion instruments to address the goals & objectives.

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is a well-established, research-driven profession in which a credentialed music therapist utilizes music strategies and exercises within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy is an allied health service much like physical, occupational, speech therapy, using music as the medium to address the goals. The qualified music therapist creates therapeutic music exercises to facilitate functional non-musical outcomes, training and retraining abilities in cognition, speech & language, motor control, academic performance, emotional growth and social skills. There is strong scientific evidence that music is a powerful tool in therapy, engaging and changing the brain and promoting behavioral learning and change.
Music is a powerful and noninvasive medium, and therefore, unique outcome are possible, outcomes that can benefit clients, family members, and the greater community.
